"On Tuesday, July 10th, David Brown, M.A., took me on a tour of Little Haiti in Miami, Florida that I
will never forget. ... David crafted a specialized tour to suit my needs making sure I not only met integral people in the community but also that I was put into contact with others who may be able to add to my research. ... As he walked me through Little Haiti, it became clear that David is a teacher at heart, and a compassionate and caring one at that. His knowledge of Little Haiti, both historical and current, is insurmountable and yet he shares his knowledge in a way that is both welcoming and easy to grasp for a newcomer like myself. ... David’s narrative captures the vivacity and liveliness of Little Haiti itself. ... What also became clear is how well connected and invested David is in the community. ... His tours are replete with the faces and people that make Little Haiti today. It is this special touch, I believe, above all else that makes David’s Urban Tours so unique, so edifying, and so invaluable for any and everyone. ... Everywhere we went David and I were greeted with warm smiles, friendly handshakes, and a sense of welcoming uncommon in other tours. ... I truly believe this is all due to David and his longstanding commitment to the community and people of Little Haiti. This connection, in and of itself, has already
proven itself to be invaluable to me. ... What is more is that our evening in Little Haiti underscores a leading factor of David’s touring program: generosity. David is generous. The generosity of his time, the generosity of his intimate knowledge of the community, as well as the generosity of his good name as he has continued to connect me with important individuals working in and with Little Haiti. But motivating all of this is his love of the
community and his commitment, desire, and passion to have others see Little Haiti as he does: a
remarkable testament to the ingenuity, creativity, and electricity of this group of people who have had to
work against so much, with so little of their own, but have made a colorful, vibrant, and remarkable
community in the heart of Miami. Words are inadequate to describe how powerful, edifying, and enriching David’s tour of Little Haiti was and continues to be. It is an unique experience, to be sure. You will see a side of Miami that is truly Miami. ... I cannot speak effusively enough; I fear my words do not do David’s Urban Tours justice but perhaps it has done just enough for others to realize the priceless experiences he offers and that one, be you local or tourist, would be wise to take a tour with Mr. David Brown."

"David Brown and his Miami's Cultural Commmunity Tours shows you the real Miami -the "other" Miami- a city far removed from the glitz of the glitter. His tour gives you the cultural and historical perspective to really understand this complex region."

"Thank you for your service which was superb. I could not have chosen a better form of entertainment for my family (reunion). Everyone enjoyed the tour tremendously. One of the family members said that the tour was the "boss" of all the activities. They said you were very knowledgeable as a tour guide. If I need this kind of service again, I will be sure to call you; you were great!"

Now that the AIA Convention is over and I am back in my office reviewing my notes and reflecting on my experiences, I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for what was a truly delightful tour. What I thought would be a typical volunteer docent-led visit to several urban parks turned into a well researched excursion of the city. The fact that you included items that specifically interested me (such as buildings, their architects, dates, and related anecdotes) along with in depth information about the urban parks themselves was an extremely pleasant surprise.
Over the past twenty years of my practice I have attended many AIA Convention tours and I must say that your tour ranks as one of my favorites. It is always delightful to happen upon a surprise, especially one that resonates on both a professional and personal level. You certainly turned what typically can be a mundane business-required experience into interesting and fun, educational diversion and for that I say, 'Thank You!'"
